This palace is located very near the Swami Padmanabhaswamy Temple in Trivandrum. He recruited efficient sculptors from Tanjore for the construction of the palace.

Swathi Thirumal Balarama Verma was a man who possessed immense talents. He was a man of varied interests. He was not just proficient in composing poetry, being an able musician he set them to tune as well. Being an able statesman, he was revered by his subjects. He was genuinely concerned about their welfare and undertook several social reforms as well. He spent many days of his life here in this palace.

The Museum remains open from 8.30 in the morning to 12.30 in the afternoon. It reopens at 3.30 and finally closes at 5.30. It is kept closed on Mondays.

The Kuthiramalai Palace Museum is indeed a rare illustration of the heights reached in the field of art and architecture by the Tanjore craftsmen. It reflects the traditional Travancore style of architecture. Several splendid wood carvings adorn the interiors of this palace. The carved stone pillars also add to the grandeur of the palace. The roofs are beautifully designed as well.

The meaning of the word Kuthiramalika is Horse Bungalow. It has been so named because there is a very beautiful monument which shows 122 horses in a position as if they are ready to jump.

The Museum has an amazing collection of paintings and objects belonging to the royal family. They include ornaments and weapons like swords and guns as well.

However the major attraction of the Kuthiramalai Palace is the Dantasimhasana.
