Celebrated in the month of January, Pravasi Bahratiya Divas marks the role of the community of Overseas Indian in the development of the country. Pravasi Bharatiya Divas acts as a platform for the Indians living outside the country to involve both with the people and the Government of India for common beneficial activities. The event was started in the year 2003. For the year 2011, Pravasi Bharatiya Divas will be held from January 7th to January 9th. Started by the Ministry of Overseas Indian Affairs, also known as MOIA, Pravasi Bharatiya Divas is celebrated every year in the month of January. The event, scheduled for January 2011 will be a joint venture between Ministry of Overseas Indian Affairs and Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region. This convention will also be the collaboration of the confederation of Indian Industry or CII and the eight North Eastern States.
Significance of Pravasi Bharatiya Divas, 2011
Pravasi Bharatiya Divas, 2011 will help in making networks with communities of overseas Indian living in different parts of the world. It is also aimed to facilitate them in sharing experiences in different fields.
The Prime Minister of India will be inaugurating the convention on 8th of January. The event will end with a valedictory speech made by the President of India on 9th of January. The esteemed Pravasi Bharatiya Samman Awards for the year 2011 will be conferred by the President of India on the closing day of the convention.
Pravasi Bharatiya Divas, 2011, will be focusing mainly on the north eastern states of the Indian subcontinent. With an aim to attract the young Indian residing outside the country, this convention will have a host of programs and events. There will be sessions on various subjects related to healthcare, education, information communication and entertainment and youth.

One of the major events of this prestigious convention is the Pravasi Bharatiya Samman Award, which is mainly focused to honor the contribution of the NRIs and PIO Ministers in the development and growth of India.
Apart from this, there will be an exhibition that will focus on varied topic. Some of the important topics that will be focused in the exhibition include Technology, Fashion, North East states, Handloom textiles, real estate and the like.
