This park covering an area of 29 sq km comprises of grasslands and lakes and is home to an amazing variety of birds.
This was initially a shooting reserve founded by the Maharaja of Bharatpur. In the year 1956 it became a Bird Sanctuary and in the year 1982 it became a Bird sanctuary. Recently it has been given the recognition of being a world heritage site.
A large variety of birds like cranes, ducks, cormorants, pelicans and painted stocks are seen here. But the most popular visitor is the Siberian crane that covers nearly half of the globe to reach this bird sanctuary in the winter season. There are several mammals and reptiles in this park as well. Mentions worthy among them are blackbuck, blue bulls, jackal, otter and deer.
