Commissioned in 1840, The Great Eastern Hotel, Kolkata was one of the oldest hotels in India, and it has played host to lords, barons and foreign dignitaries, as also to Rajahs and Nawabs during the British Raj. This classic heritage hotel has now been handed over to the Bharat Hotels Group. The hotel is presently being renovated, and would be re-commissioned as The Grand Great Eastern, Kolkata by the end of 2008.
