Snow Leopard

The Snow Leopard is also known as Panther. They reside in the remote jungles and they can also make the people astonished by their looks. They have a hypnotizing effect in their eyes and are able to mesmerize any visitors and so they are also known as Panthera.

It represents the big cats and they are more known for the cat like characteristics that they possess. Their weight is 75 kilograms, and they also have a long tail to harmonize their looks. In very cold condition the Snow Leopard uses its tail to cover its mouth and nose ad makes it possible for them to reside in extremely cold conditions.

They usually have big furry shoes and they are known as snowshoes. Snow leopards are able to reside high up in the mountains at an altitude of 6000 meters and 2000 meters. Usually they come down during the extreme cold seasons. They have numerous spots in their head and back and are easily distinguishable. Their tails are normally striped.

They feed on boars, Urial, Markhor, and other small Rhodents. One can find the Snow Leopards in the hilly areas of the Central and the South Asian regions and the estimated population of these wild animals is 200-600 in India.

They are the endangered species of the Indian subcontinent and the Government has aimed at their protection to the maximum extent. So, the Nandadevi National Park and the Chitral National Park contains numerous Indian Snow Leopards.
