About Sringeri:
Sringari is one of the exquisite Tourist Destinations in South India and is the most visited places in Karnataka. According to the legend there was a frog in labor pain and a Cobra with heaved hood protecting it from the blazing heat of the sun. So, Shankaracharya created a temple there and named it as the Sri Sharada Temple.
Sringeri as we all know is a place devoid of natural animosity, and this fact was discovered by the blessed Shankaracharya. At Sringeri, Shankaracharya also made all the arrangements for the circulation of the Advaita Philosophy and so this place is also renowned for the Advaita Ashram. From that time onwards Sringeri has become an important place for the propagation of learning and culture.
Places of Interest at Sringeri:
According to the legend Sringeri is the birth place of Shankaracharya. He was a small saint and was said to embrace sainthood at the tender age of eight years. He completely denounced the mortal world at the age of 32 and also promised his mother that he would be there beside her at the time of her death, she had to remember him for this purpose.
By his magic power, Shankaracharya appeared before his mother at the time of her death and found that there was none to do the cremation. So, he had to produce fire by his magic influence, since a saint shall not use fire during his life time.
Shankaracharya had to drag the body to the back of the house and there he set fire to it, and did the final cremation. He also cursed the Nambudris so that their house would turn to a cremation ground, because they did not burn the body of Shankaracharya's mother.
But then the ignorant Nambudris realized their mistakes and asked for forgiveness from Shankaracharya. But he promised them forgiveness once he reincarnated as a Holy Father of Sringeri. So, the place of Shankaracharya's birth was made a notable Tourist Destination and there a shrine was placed.
