25,000 people can pray at a time in Delhi's famous Jama Masjid. It is the biggest Mosque in India, is perhaps the most exuberant also as regards the structure and enormity. The Mosque named Jama Masjid is an architectural triumph, it was erected by Shah Jahan, who was also the famous builder of great many mosques and places of interest, in and around Delhi.

Built in the year 1656 by Shah Jahan, Jama Masjid is the reflection of Indo-Muslim architectural skill, and concept. It has completely ignored the Italian Architectural style much in vogue during that time.

There are numerous Muslim festivals; Jama Masjid observes some of them in an elegant manner, just like itself. The sacred month of Islamic Culture, Ramadan is observed in Jama Masjid; here the Mosque hosts the Iftar (break-fast), dinners after sunset and also Maghrib, which is the fourth required prayer of the day. The Suhoor celebration, which comprise of a meal before dawn, to the first prayers of the day called Fajr. Mosque often allows the poorer members of the community to enjoy free lunch at the beginning and end of the day.

Moreover Id-ul-Fitr and Id-ul-Zoha performed in the Mosques deserves special mention. The daily prayers, along with the obligatory prayers like Jamuah are held in Jama Masjid. It is the Friday prayer, when it is a compulsion for the adult Muslims to attend the Mosque. The Salat or Muslim prayers must be held in Arabic Language, in order to get the blessings of Allah. Since many prayers can assemble inside the Jama Masjid, during Id festivals the sight of the prayer hall becomes rejuvenating to the mind and heart.

Id is perhaps the most awaited festivals for the Muslims and they observe it with diligence and care. It is a time when Allah showers all his blessings on Muslims, and they flood his gate to collect their due shares. Jama Masjid offers them the right opportunity to wash off their sins and look forward for a new and prosperous life in future.
