Introduction to Jamali Kamali Mosque

The Construction of the Jamali Kamali Mosque started during the reign of Babur, in 1528-29 and was completed during Humayun's times. Jamali was the favourite poet and saint whose real name was Shaikh Fazhullah and who lived during the reign of Sikander Lodhi till the time Humayun took the throne.

Architecture of Jamali Kamali Mosque

The architecture of Jamali Kamali Mosque reflects a transition period os the architecture of India, somewhere between the styles of Sher Shah's mosque and Moth-ki-Masjid. The mosque is richly decorated with stuccowork. There are five arched openings in the prayer hall, with the central arch a bit higher than the rest with artistic carvings. The western wall of the mosque has inscriptions from Quran. On the second floor of the Mosque is a narrow gallery that surrounds the mosque. The prayer hall portico has beautiful decorations of lotus buds. There are octagonal towers that can be seen in the rear corners of the Jamali Kamali Mosque in Delhi.
