Introduction

Chandni Chowk was built about 300 years ago when the famous walled city of Shahjahanabad was constructed in the 17th century. Popularly known as the Moonlight Square, Chandni Chowk is one of the most important and historic streets of Delhi. Chandni Chowk derived its name from an octagonal pool on the street which reflected moonlight.

Special Events of Chandni Chowk

One of the greatest events organized on Chandni Chowk is the Republic Day Celebration on 26 January. The Republic Day Parade is a significant celebration that takes place around Chandni Chowk. Other special events of Chandni Chowk include Dussera, Christmas, Id, Jain and Sikh festivals.

Chandni Chowk reflects Indian secularism and cultural diversity. It has many places of religion like a Baptist Church, Fatehpuri Masjid, Gurwara and Gauri Shankar Temple.
