Knee Surgery is a regular happening with the orthopedic
surgeons. In India almost everyday the maximum number
of operation that happens after child delivery is knee
                          surgeries.
Painful knees are a frequent occurring problem in the
middle-aged and elderly populations. Commonest cause
of knee pain in this population is knee arthritis. There
are quite a few treatments for early knee arthritis
that can help alleviate pain, and return people to their
daily activities. As some point, knee arthritis begins
to interfere with quality of life to such a point that
something has to change. Knee replacement surgery, better
known as total knee arthroplasty can help relieve pain
and restore function in severely diseased knee joints.

                        What is the knee?
The knee is the largest joint in the body, and one
of the most easily injured. It is made up of the lower
end of the thighbone (femur) which rotates on the upper
end of the shinbone (tibia), and the knee cap (patella)
which slides in a groove on the end of the femur. The
knee also contains large ligaments which help control
motion by connecting bones and bracing the joint against
abnormal types of motion. Other parts of your knee,
like cartilage, serve to cushion your knee or help it
                          absorb shock during motion.
                        Miscellaneous Knee Problems
                          #   Patellar Tendon Rupture
                            #   Tibial Tubercle Fracture
                            #   Quadriceps Tendon Rupture
                            #   Osteonecrosis Of The Knee
                            #   Goosefoot (Pes Anserine) Bursitis Of The Knee

                            #   Posterior Cruciate Ligament (Pcl) Tear
                            #   Arthritis Of The Knee

                        ACL Surgery:
The surgical procedure for an ACL reconstruction is
variable, but commonly involves using a segment of another
larger ligament or tendon to replace the damaged ACL.
The ligament most commonly used is the patellar ligament
which connects the kneecap (patella) to the tibia. About
one-third of this ligament is removed and subsequently
secured to the femur and tibia to replace the torn ACL.

The Arthroscopic ACL Reconstruction is the incidence
of post operative neuromas of the infrapatellar branch
of the saphenous nerve. Doctors prefer the patellar
tendon as a graft, although recent reports have found
no significant difference between patellar tendon and
hamstring grafts. In a revision reconstruction they
may choose to use allograft if available.

The options that can be used for ACL reconstruction
                          include:
                          #   Patellar Ligament
                            #   Hamstring Tendons
                            #   Allograft (Donor Tissue)
                        Knee Replacement Surgeries:
During the procedure, your knee is in a bent position
so that all surfaces of the joint are fully exposed.
After making an incision between 6 and 12 inches in
length, your surgeon moves aside your muscles, kneecap
and connective tissues and cuts away the damaged joint
surface. He or she takes measurements to ensure a good
fit for your new prosthesis and smoothens your bones'
rough edges. The surgeon then inserts the prosthesis.
Before closing the incision, he or she bends and rotates
your knee, testing and balancing it to ensure that it
functions properly. Some people choose to have both
knees replaced at the same time.
Knee Replacement Surgery help in the following:

such as walking, climbing stairs and getting in and
out of chairs, or you experience moderate or severe
                          knee pain at rest.
                            #   When you have limited function or mobility,
such as chronic knee stiffness and swelling that prevent
you from bending and straightening your knee.
                            #   You've tried other methods to improve symptoms,
for example resting, weight loss, physical therapy,
medications, braces and surgery, but they've failed.

                            #   You have a knee deformity, such as a joint
                          that bows in or out.
                            #   You're age 55 or older.
