Chin Implant

Chin Implant Surgeries are becoming famous day by day. It is an essential part of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeries and is considered as one of the mostly demanding one.

It is a surgical procedure to enhance the shape and tautness of chin. Both female and male patients can opt for this surgery.

Chin Implant Surgeries may occur because of a number of reasons:

  • To enhance the chins caused by poorly developed muscles.
  • To achieve firmness and definition of chin region.
  • To enhance facial curves.
  • To considerably improve the whole context of looks of the body.
  • To obtain a mild chin lifting effect.
  • To recover a deformity from birth
  • To recover a deformity owned from an accident

This procedure can be as simple as injecting a temporary soft tissue augmentation filler to implanting a silicone or Porex chin implant or as to having a genioplasty.

A weak chin makes a face droop. It may also give the appearance of a 'fleshy' neck. On the other hand, a too prominent chin does the harm of throwing the face off balance. So here comes the Chin Implant Surgery to enhance the beauty and add confidence to an individual.

    Surgery procedure at Apollo Hospitals:
During the chin augmentation procedure, the surgeon uses synthetics or biological to augment the bone structure. The procedure used in a chin augmentation means use of a surgical facility with an anesthesiologist and the patient may be required to stay in the hospital over night. Once the surgery for chin augmentation is completed, patients may wear a support brace to let the tissues and implant to heal properly. Usually there is bruising and swelling for the first 5 to 7 days after chin augmentation surgery.
To augment the chin, the doctor will start by making an incision either in the natural crease line just under the chin or inside the mouth, where gum and lower lip meet. Next, through gently stretching this tissue, the surgeon creates a space where an implant can be inserted. Implants are available in different shapes and sizes; this allows custom fitting of the implant to the specifics of the face. After implantation, the surgeon uses fine sutures to close the incision. When the incision is inside the mouth, no scarring is visible.

    Risks of the Operation:
All surgeries have risks and complications. Although chin augmentation is not a difficult one but still complications can happen. These include allergic reaction to the anesthetic used. You will have a chance to review the risks associated with anesthesia further along in the tutorial.

    1. Infection
One could develop a post-operative infection and need to have the implant removed, the infection dealt with and still has to wait for several months before an additional surgery can be performed to re-implant. Infections usually occur with the first few weeks.

  • A very common one is Staphylococcus.
  • A more severe one is Methyl Resistant Staphylococcus aureus, or MRSA.

    Precaution:
  • Be sure and thoroughly wash the face and neck area with an anti-bacterial soap for a few days before surgery.
  • Some patients are instructed to wash with these anti-bacterial soaps every day for 3 days beforehand.
  • This precaution will assist in ridding the immediate area of Staph which naturally occurs on the skin.
  • The surgeon also scrubs the face and neck with Betadine solution right before your incision is made.

    2. Hematoma & Seroma
Hematoma: A mass of usually clotted blood that forms in a tissue, organ, or body space as a result of a broken blood vessel Seroma: A collection of the watery portion of the blood of an animal which may need to be aspirated

    3. Implant Shifting & Asymmetry
There could be asymmetry due to malposition of the implant by the surgeon, swelling, trauma, hematoma, or general. There is also the risk of "shifting". If this happens a second surgery may be needed to reposition the implant.

    4. Extended Loss of Sensation (Numbness)
Although you will be numb from the anesthetic and swelling -- as you heal various areas will regain sensation before others. Numbness of the lips should subside in 2-3 weeks
