Augmentation Surgery is the enhancement or enlargement surgeries done to the different parts of human body to enhance its beauty as per the wish and need of the patients. It is a part of the cosmetic and plastic surgeries as referred by the doctors. . offers information regarding diagnosis and treatment for Knee surgery in association with the best medical facilities of Apollo Hospitals.

With the passage of time, with the increasing consciousness of human and with the economic growth all over the world, these surgeries are gaining in importance.

The commonly performed augmentation surgeries are:

  • Breast Augmentation Surgery
  • Penile Augmentation Surgery
  • Lip Augmentation Surgery
  • Chin Augmentation Surgery
  • Cheek Augmentation Surgery

    Breast Augmentation Surgery:

Breast augmentation is also known as augmentation mammaplasty. It is a surgical implantation behind each breast to enhance its shape. Enhancement of the breasts can be done at any age after the breasts are developed. Generally done for aesthetic reasons women undertake the surgery after severe weight loss, after childbirth or ageing when the breasts loses their volume and shape.

    1. Saline Breast Implants:
Before one undergoes breast augmentation surgery with implants one can make choices regarding the surgery. One can either choose to implant saline or silicone implants. A saline breast implant is a pouch made of silicone rubber or elastomer. This is surgically inserted under the chest tissue or muscle and then filled with saline water through a valve. The texture of saline implants varies. Saline implants cause visible rippling and appears less natural than silicone gel implants. If the saline implants ruptures saline is released and the empty implants can be removed and replaced.

    2. Silicone Gel Breast Implants
In 70s the silicone implants had thick shells and thick silicone gels but today silicone implants have multiple layers of silicone elastomer around the implant. These implants are pre filled and are ordered by the surgeon. The shape of a silicone gel implant cannot be changed. Longer incisions are to be made to implant them and they produce a firmer and softer effect than saline implants.

    Penile Augmentation Surgery:

PAS is divided into lengthening and girth enhancement.

    1. Lengthening:
To lengthen the appearance of the penis, one of three suspensory ligaments is treated, lowering where the penis hangs from the pelvis. This almost always displaces the pubic hair to appear on the top portion of the penile shaft. It looks strange initially and requires electrolysis to correct. If the ligament reattaches, which is what it naturally tries to do, the penis will likely be smaller than it originally was. To prevent this, PAS patients must attach weights to their penis for 4 to 8 hours a day. For more information on surgical techniques, check out Urology International.

    2. Girth enhancement:
It is usually performed by injecting fat from another body area into the penis. Often, this fat is absorbed within a few months, requiring reinsertion again. Some men acquire lumpy deposits, which look and feel strange. Another girth enhancement method is a dermal graft. Eye-shaped slices of skin are removed from where the buttocks meet the thighs and then sewn into the penis.

    Lip Augmentation Surgery:

Full, lush lips are very much in fashion now. With the growing fashion conscious population, the people are getting more prone towards these surgeries.
The surgery is done by using a small needle through which the doctor will inject a substance into your lips to fill them out. This injection can be fat taken from your own body. Generally an artificial substance like Article or Restyling is taken. Collagen is also popular for lips and wrinkles around the mouth.
Generally patients undergoing such surgeries recover within1-2 weeks. Complications found are like swelling, bruising and stiffness in the lip for some days at the beginning, but this is generally a safe procedure.

    Chin Augmentation surgery:

A "weak" chin makes the face droop. This is done through either creating a more defined chin, or a smaller one via corrective surgical procedure. By using chin augmentation surgery, a cosmetic surgeon can create more balanced relationship between the facial features.

During the chin augmentation procedure, the surgeon uses synthetics or biological to augment the bone structure. The procedure used in a chin augmentation means use of a surgical facility with an anesthesiologist and the patient may be required to stay in the hospital over night. Once the surgery for chin augmentation is completed, patients may wear a support brace to let the tissues and implant to heal properly. Usually there is bruising and swelling for the first 5 to 7 days after chin augmentation surgery.

To augment the chin, the doctor will start by making an incision either in the natural crease line just under the chin or inside the mouth, where gum and lower lip meet. Next, through gently stretching this tissue, the surgeon creates a space where an implant can be inserted. Implants are available in different shapes and sizes; this allows custom fitting of the implant to the specifics of the face. After implantation, the surgeon uses fine sutures to close the incision. When the incision is inside the mouth, no scarring is visible.

    Cheek Augmentation Surgery:

High, prominent cheekbones are one of the facial features most frequently associated with beauty. Cheek implants may produce a dramatic change. For many people, cheek implants can provide new facial contours and dimensions to bring facial features into better balance. Cheek implants are made in various shapes and sizes. They are made out of both solid and semi-solid materials that have been used successfully for years. It is also used to correct asymmetries and congenital defects.

When cheek implant surgery is performed in conjunction with other facial procedures, the implants may be inserted through the incisions used for that procedure. If cheek implant surgery is performed by itself, incisions are either made at the top of the upper lip, near the gums, or on the outer cheek, slightly below the lower eyelid. The implant of the size and shape that the surgeon has selected is then inserted through these incisions into a pocket created in the tissue. In some cases, a small titanium screw is used to attach the implant and the bone. The implants are placed on or below the cheekbones and the incisions are closed with sutures that the body absorbs. At the conclusion of the surgery the skin is dressed to reduce swelling.

The surgery generally takes from 30 to 45 minutes. This procedure is generally performed on an outpatient basis. Local anesthetic is used to reduce pain during the surgery. Stitches in the mouth dissolve in approximately 10 days. Due to swelling at times, the results of the surgery may not be plainly visible for as long as three or four months. Scars are generally well hidden.

Apollo Hospital's Cosmetic and Plastic Surgery Department is at par to international standards. It treats deformities, injury related conditions and personal grooming requirements. All the above mentioned surgeries other than penile augmentation are quite familiar a business in Apollo Hospitals.
