Introduction

Popularly known as the Iron Fort, the Lohagarh Fort was built in the 18th century. For the impregnability the fort came to be called the Lohagarh Fort.

Description

There are many magnificent monuments in the fort. Some of them include the Kishori Mahal, Kothi Khas, Mahal Khas and Moti Mahal. The Jawahar Burj and Fateh Burj were built by Suraj Mal to honor his victories over the Mughals and the British.

The 8 metal gates of the Lohagarh Fort are an important part of the fort�s entity. The gates or ashtadhatu have inscriptions of elephants. It is believed that the main gate of the Lohagarh Fort originally belonged to the Fort of Chittorgarh which was taken away by Alauddin Khilji. In the latter half of the 17th century the gate was brought back the Jats. The fort is bordered by deep moats which are again populated by crocodiles.
