Introduction

Built by Maharaja Balwant Singh, the erstwhile ruler of Bharatpur, Ganga Temple showcases marvelous architecture and craftsmanship. Goddess Ganga is worshipped in the Ganga Temple in Bharatpur.

It is believed that Maharaja Balwant Singh had been childless for a number of years. He prayed to Goddess Ganga and asked for a son. He promised that after his prayer was answered he would build a temple in her honor. Soon the king�s wish was granted and he ordered for a temple to be built for Goddess Gange. However it is believed that it took over 90 years to build the temple and the image of the deity was finally placed by Brijendra Singh who was the fifth descendent of Balwant Singh.

Description

The Ganga Temple showcases a fusion of Rajput, Mughal and South Indian styles of architecture. The image of the deity is imposing and beautifully decorated. There is a massive image of a crocodile which is believed to be the carrier of Goddess Ganga.

Holy water from the river Ganga are offered to the devotees who visit the temple.
