Introduction

Occupying an area of 235 square kilometers, the Bharatpur Bird Sanctuary also known as the Keoladeo Ghana National Park is named after the Shiva temple in the sanctuary. This massive land was converted into a bird sanctuary by Maharaja Bhamji.

The Bharatpur Bird Sanctuary is the largest bird reserve that houses 375 species of birds and animals. The migratory birds visit the sanctuary between August and February. Some of the rare species of birds are Coot Snipes, Pelican, Flamingo, Spanish Sparrow, Red Crested Porhard and the famous Siberian Crane. Other animals found here are Pythons, Spotted Deer, Black Buck and Blue Bull.

The climate of Bharatpur Bird Sanctuary is more or less pleasant. However summers can be quite warm. It is advisable to carry light colored cotton clothes while visiting the Bharatpur Bird Sanctuary during summer.

The best time to visit the Bharatpur Bird Sanctuary is between October and February. This is the time when migratory birds from all over the world visit the sanctuary.
