Bayana

Introduction

About 50 kilometers from Bharatpur is the town of Bayana. The original name of Bayana was Sripastha. Bayana is not only famous for its many tourist attractions but also historically. Babur defeated Rana Sanga of Chittor in a famous battle near Bayana. Bayana henceforth became an important area of the Mughal Dynasty.

Some of the major tourist attractions of Bayana are the Old Fort which houses relics of both Hindus and Muslims. The pillar with Pali inscriptions adds to the antiqueness of the fort.

The Barah Khambon ki Chhatri is a pavilion of 12 pillars. Another two-storied cenotaph near this is another favorite stop of tourists. The Lodi Minar built around 1520 by Nizam Khan still speaks of the glorious history of Bayana. The carvings and Urdu inscriptions on the Jahangir gate are very interesting.
