General Introduction:

Inspired by the Persian form of pleasure and recreation in gardens Babur laid out the first Mughal Garden in Rambagh. Nur Jahan, wife of Jahangir added to the decoration of the garden. The Rambagh Gardens is also known as the Bagh-i-Gul Afshan.

History:

The Rambagh Gardens one of the first pleasure gardens of the Mughals was built by Babur in 1528. The spectacular gardens are located three kilometers away from the tomb of Itimad-ud-Daulah and 500 meters away from the Chini Ka Rauza. Inspired by the Persians form of pleasure, Babur laid out the ravishing gardens. The garden resembles a paradise. In Islam a garden is considered to be a paradise. The Garden is laid out in the char bagh pattern with pathways and waterways. The paved pathways are flanked by lush green paths.

Features:

The Garden is laid out in char bagh style. The main attractions of the gardens are the structure in charbagh pattern, with four main divisions made by paths and waterways. Water from the Yamuna flows in cascades in the garden. Fountains, an island platform, stairway on one side of the water channel and two pavilions on either side of the main water channel are other attractions of the Rambagh Gardens Agra. Emperor Babur was buried in the garden before being cremated in Kabul.
