Delhi Zoo

"Life is a zoo in a jungle"- Peter De Vries.

Delhi Zoo is located adjacent to the Purana Quila; it was established in 1959, over 214 acres land. Endeavors have been made to provide an almost natural habitat to the browsing animals and grant them a safe breeding ground so that they may rear and amplify in number thereby maintaining an ideal ecological poise.

Delhi Zoo is considered the best in Asia, and consists of over 2,000 species of animals, and birds, that have been collected from Africa, America and other remote places in the world. It also offers a perfect picnic spot for the tourists due to its verdant landscape and remains closed on Fridays.

The main birds and animals in this zoo are:

  • Egret
  • Stork
  • Rosy Pelican
  • Indian Grey Hornbill
  • Red Whiskered Bulbul
  • Monkey
  • Crane
  • Simian
  • Deer
  • Pelican
  • Tiger
  • King Fisher
  • Macaw
  • Little Erget
The Delhi Zoo is sponsored by the National Government; at the entrance the splendid Kos Minar reminds us of Jahangir, who took the assignment of crafting it.
