The Arya Vaidya Sala

Kottakal, Kerala

It was founded in 1902 by Vaidyaratnam P.S. Varier, an outstanding physician and a man of vision. Within a period of three decades he established a full-fledged manufacturing unit and branches of Arya Vaidya Sala in two major cities of Kerala. He also built a charitable hospital at Kottakal to provide allopathic and Ayurvedic treatments and an Ayurveda College providing training free of cost.

In recognition of his services the distinguished title of "Vaidyaratnam" was conferred on him by His Excellency the Viceroy and Governor general of India in 1933. The Arya Vaidya Sala became a Charitable Trust after his death in 1944.

Today the Arya Vaidya Sala has grown into a vast organisation. It has two manufacturing units -- one at Kottakal and the other at Kanjikode in Kerala. Large herbal gardens are also maintained to meet growing demands. There is a nursery of medicinal plants at Kottakal to research purposes.
