Padmanabhapuram Palace Kanyakumari is the palace which is famous for its individuality and architecture. the palace was built in the 16th century when the land was experiencing the rules of Travencore. The architect of the palace is Iravi Varma Kulasekhara Perumal. He ruled Travancore from 1592 to 1609. The complex structure and the name are derived from the mythological tale of 'Padmanava' which means the lotus that originated from navel of lord Vishnu. The palace covered an area of 7 acres and that makes the palace to get a different dimension. The palace has corridors made of maze and the extensive wood work that make you to experience the rich art and architecture of the by gone days. The main gate is known as Padipura. There is an ornamented roof with wonderful wood carvings and designs.
