Architecture of St. Stephen's Church

Introduction

St Stephen's Church is rectangular in shape and reflects archetypal gothic style of architecture. The elaborate and ornate designs of walls and the high ceiling are marvelous. Built in 1862, St Stephen's Church is located on Church Mission Road of Delhi.

It is the local belief that St. Stephens' Church as well as St Stephen's College and Hospital buildings is red in color as the patron saint, St Stephen, a Christian martyr was stoned to death.

Apart from the ornate ceiling and gothic styled architecture, the stained glass windows are other attractions of the church. The arched structures between the circular columns create beautiful designs when the sunrays fall on the ground. The pilasters are made of intricately carved sandstone. The bell tower is another special feature of St. Stephens' Church.

The motives are intricately designed and the carvings are marvelous. The old furniture adds a special charm and aura to this 19th century church in Delhi. The baroque style of designs is extremely beautiful.
