Industrial Opportunities:
The district has a well diversified industrial structure and is
adjoining to Greater Mumbai (Bombay). It therefore, offers scope for expansion of almost
all industry groups. The specific industry groups having development prospects in Thane
district are as follow:
- Chemicals and Chemicals products except products of Petroleum and Coal;
- Basic Metals and Alloys Industries;
- Machinery, Machine Tools and parts except Electrical Machinery;
- Electrical Machinery, Apparatus, Appliances, Supplies and Parts;
- Rubber, Plastics, Petroleum and Coal products;
- Wool, Silk and Synthetic Fibre Textiles;
- Food Products; and
- Cotton Textiles and Transport Equipments and Parts.
Due to its diversified industrial structure and proximity to Greater
Mumbai, the growth-centres coming in district offers goods scope for development and
expansion of these industries. The following industries also have development prospects in
the growth-centres as well as outside the growth-centres in the dist- rict: Rice Mills,
rice bran, Fruit Processing, Vegetable Process- ing, fish Preservation, Poultry, Dairy,
Bee-keeping, Cattle Feed, Banana Fibre, Palm gur, Paper and Timber Products, Agricultural
Equipments, Engineering, Automobiles, Pharmaceuticals and ancill- aries, Cold storage,
Plastic Products and Electronic goods. New electronic zone at T.T.C. in Thane-Balapur area
on 100 acres of land,would encourage establishment of electronic units.
